There are two things that I would most like to encourage amongst others: a love of travel, and an appreciation of history in terms of how the world in which we live has developed.
Although both of these things are immensely rewarding to have, they are not things that I necessarily learnt in school; History lessons generally covered events from several centuries ago and not things that I could readily associate with the world around me.
As a result, I’ve had to self-teach myself, from scratch, most of the history that I have learnt over the years; hence the “Standing Start” of the title. This site is a vehicle for the occasional article regarding subjects that take my interest. I hope that you will find them of interest too.
